Microsoft wants sales and service staff to stop opening their CRM. In an October 8 post, Jeff Teper, executive vice president for Microsoft Apps and Agents, outlined a set of Dynamics 365 updates that move customer data and actions into Copilot and Microsoft Teams, and that hand more defined business processes to autonomous agents. Microsoft calls the approach "agentic, headless CRM": the CRM stays the system of record, while people and agents work with it from elsewhere.

The largest piece is a batch of 30 pre-built skills spanning Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Service and Customer Insights. They extend the redesigned Copilot that Microsoft introduced on September 25, specifically its Cowork, Autopilot and Code experiences. Sellers can flag at-risk deals, build account engagement plans and propose CRM record updates for review. Service reps can review a customer's case history, research answers and draft replies, and marketers can tailor outreach and launch customer journeys with consent and readiness checks. The skills run on Dynamics 365 Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and can also be called by custom agents.

Availability varies. The skills are generally available in Cowork, Autopilot use is in private preview, and access through Code comes via Microsoft's Frontier Program. A separate feature, Dynamics 365 CRM in the flow of Teams, is in public preview: once a Teams channel is linked to a customer account, agents can post pre-meeting briefs, case notifications and account updates there. Microsoft also says Work IQ in Teams combines Dynamics 365 business data with Microsoft 365 workplace signals.

The agent updates go further. Service Agent in Microsoft 365 now works for employees outside the support team, such as account managers and subject matter experts, inside Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. In Microsoft's example, it reads a customer's billing complaint, pulls relevant knowledge, drafts a reply for approval, opens a CRM case if tracking is needed, and outside business hours resolves what it can before escalating. This version is in private preview for a select group of Frontier customers. Agents are managed and governed through Agent 365.

Sales Development Agent, first announced in 2025, researches prospects, personalizes outreach, handles follow-ups and passes qualified leads to sellers. It is managed in Teams, sends email from its own Exchange account and connects to leading CRM platforms. It remains in public preview and will begin consuming Copilot credits on November 16, 2026, which makes it a billed product for organizations that keep it running. Microsoft also mentioned Dynamics 365 Activate, in public preview since last month, which analyzes an existing CRM environment to plan a migration to Dynamics 365.

The post includes customer endorsements from BNY, Grupo Águia Branca, Adobe and Comcast. They are vendor-selected testimonials, and the one numerical claim, an Adobe manager saying the agent drove meetings with more than ten customers within three weeks, is not independently verified. Most of the agent features remain in preview, and Microsoft has not published Copilot credit rates for Sales Development Agent in the announcement.
