Anthropic is joining the bank-linked assistant race. In a November 5, 2026 article on Claude's site, the company introduced Personal Finance, a beta feature that lets US subscribers on Pro, Max and Ultra plans connect bank and card accounts through Plaid and ask plain-language questions about balances, spending and bills. TechCrunch, The Verge and a Reuters wire all covered the same rollout the same day.
Access is framed as read-only. Anthropic says Personal Finance cannot move, manage or invest money, is not designed to give investment advice, and carries no ads or sponsored product pitches of its own. Users authenticate at their bank through Plaid so Claude never sees bank passwords. For linked accounts, Claude can see bank name, account name and type, last four digits, balances and credit limits, and up to 24 months of transactions including amount, date, merchant, category and the bank's description.
The product pitch is conversational money review. Anthropic's examples include asking where money went this month, whether spending is higher than usual, what bills hit before payday, whether anything looks off such as duplicate charges or creeping fees, and what an APR has cost over the past year. Claude can build adjustable weekly spending charts, due-date calendars and custom dashboards inside the Personal Finance hub. Conversations in that hub are not used to train Anthropic's models, according to the company; chats outside the hub follow the user's normal privacy settings.
Rollout and limits are explicit. The Help Center says the beta is US-only on Pro, Max and Ultra, available on Claude web, Desktop, iOS and Android, and not on Free, Team or Enterprise. Linked accounts cannot be used in scheduled tasks, Cowork tasks or Claude Code, and may not work inside projects. Anthropic also says the feature is rolling out gradually, so not every eligible user will see it immediately. Users can unlink a bank anytime or disconnect Claude at my.plaid.com.
OpenAI shipped a similar Plaid-linked money feature for ChatGPT earlier in 2026, which The Verge notes as context. Anthropic's post ends by saying Personal Finance is a first step and that it wants banks and wealth managers to help shape how Claude works alongside licensed professionals for bigger money decisions.
For consumer AI products, this is a meaningful New Products launch: a first-party Anthropic feature with clear plan gating, a named connector and explicit read-only bounds, corroborated by multiple outlets. Claims about training exclusions and data fields come from Anthropic; no independent security audit of the Plaid integration was reviewed in this run. Anyone linking a bank should still treat model answers as fallible and verify large figures with the bank itself.
